Machining Materials and Selection of PCD Tools

PCD cutters have become an indispensable and necessary means in modern machining. Ⅰ. The processing material of PCD cutter


1. Difficult-to-machine non-ferrous metals and their alloys


When processing non-ferrous metals such as copper, zinc, aluminum and their alloys, sintered hard alloys, titanium alloys, and babbitt alloys, the materials are easy to adhere to the tool, which is difficult to process. PCD cutter can effectively prevent the metal and the tool from bonding, and the tool life long.


For titanium alloys, copper alloys, tungsten carbide (Co < 16% and Co > 16%), aluminum alloys (4-8%Si and 9-13%Si), high silicon aluminum alloys (>13%Si) , CDW010 grades of PCD cutters can be applied, for alloy materials with higher wear resistance requirements, coarse-grained and mixed-grained PCD material tools CDW025 and CDW302 can be used.


2. Difficult to process non-metallic materials


When processing glass fiber reinforced plastics, filler materials, hard carbon fiber/epoxy resin composite materials, ceramics, and wood, the tool wear is serious and it is difficult to process. PCD cutters have high hardness, good wear resistance, and high processing efficiency. Commonly used PCD materials are CDW010, CDW025 and CDW302.

The main considerations for the selection of PCD cutters: surface accuracy, shape accuracy, dimensional accuracy, tool deformation, shortened work cycle, shortened downtime, increased tool life, hard materials, tool cost, reduced investment and other factors.
